IP Training (for students)

As innovators, your ideas are valuable, but how do you make sure they’re truly yours, and protect them from being copied? This workshop gives you the practical tools to understand and safeguard your intellectual property (IP).

You’ll learn the essentials of IP rights, patents, copyrights and trademarks and how they affect everyday situations: working with collaborators, negotiating partnerships, or launching a product on your own. You’ll also discover how to use publicly available patent information to your advantage:

  • Check your Freedom to Operate: can you make, use, or sell your idea without infringing on existing patents?
  • Spot opportunities: where are the gaps you can innovate in?
  • Reduce risk: avoid wasting time and money on ideas already protected.
  • Make smarter decisions: use IP insights to shape R&D, partnerships, and market strategy.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear, practical understanding of how to protect your ideas, avoid common IP pitfalls, and move forward with confidence in your innovation journey.
