Thousands of new jobs created by UtrechtInc startups
More than 300 startups have been supported on their growth journey through one of UtrechtInc’s programmes in the past 13 years. Together, these startups have created 3750 new jobs.
UtrechtInc supports researchers, students and entrepreneurs in successfully starting a tech business around their (science-based) innovation. These startups provide a crucial contribution to the progress of our economy and society. Today, UtrechtInc has 35 startups in-house and is working with more than 170 mentors and experts.
Since 2009, 301 startups have been supported by UtrechtInc, of which 70% are still active (or have been acquired). In total, these startups have created a remarkable 3750 jobs in and outside the Utrecht region. When looking at the funding aspect, €3.3 billion have been raised by the startups, and €4 million via the Rabo Pre-Seed Fund, which UtrechtInc runs together with Rabobank. In the last year, the UtrechtInc startups reached a shared revenue of almost €320 million.
The main way in which UtrechtInc supports startups is via validation programmes. Currently, there are three different programmes available, one targeting science-based startups, another student startups and a third one specifically for tech startups (where the founders are not required to have any connections with academia). The goal of all of these programmes is to turn the assumptions involved in the very early stages of an idea for a new product into facts by validating them. This is done through workshops, coaching, mentoring and of course, being part of a startup community.
